Health and Fitness and Cable TV

The two don't often go hand in hand, but here in Dutch Harbor they do. We've been busy running with polar bears. Speaking of health and fitness, there isn't much more healthy or fit than this invention of modern man. Boodah demonstrates:

Any questions?

In between some hurricane force storms (yeah, yeah, old news) setting house boats adrift (and sinking them, too) and hurling the Icy Mist onto Akutan's rocky shores, we've actually had a few stunning days. One being the day of the Polar Bear run itself. Here are Boodah and Max milling about at the starting line - you'd have to tune in to Flash Unalaska to see the action shots. Which I'm sure is not broadcast on many channels outside of the Aleutian Island region. Boodah rode in the stroller and fell asleep on the way back (during the painful head wind part), but has been claiming, "mine's sooo sore from da polar bear run" all week. Speaking of the Polar Bear run, congratulations to Naho and Yuma! Gold and silver in the third grade and under division!

Some family members are a little tired of the dearth of snowboarding and surfing opportunities, but at the same time we're not complaining about the blue sky, rainbow laden, sunny beach fun. Humpy's Cove bonfires, beach glass combing, that kind of stuff.

Here's a little daddy day care action. I've been working on Saturdays, so Boppa's getting a little taste of the stay at home lifestyle. Possibly a bigger taste than he wants. Although he says I have two major things that make the job a little bit easier for me than it is for him.

A little pooky... (silent s, as pronounced by Boodah, at some military ruins on Ballyhoo.)

Ever sage Dutch Harbor graffiti... The other wall quoted Rousseau. Seriously. I'm not sure how accurately, but any graffiti that quotes old French dudes is fairly impessive. (After a bit of googling, turns out it was a Tom Waits lyric from Alice. Who's to say Waits wasn't quoting Rousseau?)

Part of my inspiration for health and fitness is the trips we have lined up to sunny beaches, and part of it is to be part of the Unalaska Biggest Winner challenge. The winner of the latter gets a free vacation to Hawaii! And there are lots of other prizes for the monthly weigh-ins. (The winner is determined by who loses the largest percentage of their weight). If this contest had only started on December 8th!

And the joy of this whole thing is now that we have cable, we can actually see Flash Unalaska in color without snow! And we promise not to watch the cable at other times. It's a promise we've so far kept, except for that one night of Flash Unalaska, followed by Brett Michael's Tour Bus (can't believe the "no all the way sex" girl didn't make it past the first episode... totally didn't see that one coming), The Daily Show, and Colbert Report. But that was it! Man, there sure are a lot of ads for cars and for Alyssa Milano explaining how she got rid of her horrible secret. Important stuff we've been missing out on all this time!

But the fast internet has been keeping all five of our daily spare minutes occupied. Facebook is addictive, I can see how it's so popular. Even Boppa is thinking about joining. Still just thinking though.

Oh yes, and how can we forget! Huge news! At least in the David Cross sense. Boodah has been sleeping through the night regularly! (Unless it's a little pooky outside.) Hooray! And going to sleep on his own! Hooray! Before we know it, he'll be going potty big boy style! (Not much movement on that front, yet.)

How we miss the bowling! The joys of big city life! And here's hoping Erin's snowmachine shows up in one piece! Hopefully Oscarville's finest are on the case...

Two Tickets to Paradise

The other day Stokes weighed in at 13 lbs, 9 ounces. That was about February 4th or so. Here are a few of the shots that didn't quite make the cut for the passport photo.

They are pretty awesome passport photos, but those sticklers at the Passport Agency are into plain white backgrounds.

Boodah's sleeping bag also doubles as an airplane. He likes to fly to Dee-La, which is near Paradise. Like Eddie Money, he's got two tickets to the destination, and he's usually kind enough to share one.

He likes to fly his plane down the stairs... we'll see if this loads up on our dial-up. If not, we'll just have to count down those up to 5 business days it will take for our cable internet to be activated. Oh dear, we'll be searching for sweet vans and reading Facebook all day!

Nana!

Nana came for a visit these past two weeks. Thanks for all of the help, Nana! Nana's presence was especially appreciated, as both Boodah and Boppa came down with a gnarly influenza strain during the visit. Needless to say, we were light on the outdoors activities, and heavy on the movie watching during that time. But Nana taught Boodah some tasty cookie treat making moves, and kept him entertained as he battled through his flu. Thank you for all the tasty cooking! And thank you for the good company! We're looking forward to seeing you in the Bahamas!

And here's the exciting article about our town from the LA Times. Yep, we had an actual Los Angelino reporter wandering through our fair town last week. Big time!

Mystery Onesies

Thank you to whoever sent us the funny onesies! Here's one being modeled.

Stokes is smiling a lot these days!

Surf's up!

Boppa surfing the big waves of Dutch Harbor! Well, big by Boppa's standards. Which are low.
