Donating to a good cause
Yes, always a good thing to do. We here at Team Wilco heartily support it. And when you get 25 pounds of crab for your donation, well that's a pretty nice bonus. Here's our bounty from this weekend's Soup-off, the annual fundraiser for the Unalaska Women's Shelter.
Just for scale purposes, each leg is approximately as long as one small child.
Last night's menu....boiled king crab legs with lemon and butter.
On tonight's menu....Cape Fear King Crab Cakes with Lemon-Dill Sauce.
As for Mr. Boo....well he's happy to eat the camera strap or just about anything else he can pull toward his mouth.
But don't worry...you can stay tuned for more exciting recipes...you know, like acorn squash and breastmilk...sweet potato and breastmilk....the ever favorite green beans with breastmilk.
Your friends with crabs,
Team Wilco

The upside of the frequent extended periods of this
is that when it's all over we get a day like this.
So we saddle up and wander out.
On Saturday, this was a passable road to Summer Bay. After the blizzard of the last couple of days, it's now a perfect cross country trail, inaccessible by road due to a few serious snowdrifts.
Pax Rev always gets serious on these missions.
(Just like his parents.)
Here's some eagles and a cool pinnacle. Here they are up closer.
And the natural end result of any good cross-country ski mission, a walk on the beach.
We saw two foxes, and these little specks of what appear to be hairy mammals.
Wild horses!

How things change....
Cooking has always been a hobby. Recipe blogs and internet recipe databases have added new ideas and inspirations. My friend Aileen just started her blog which infuses recipes, excitement over cooking and tidbits of Bethel. We had many a dream of opening up a bakery, perhaps a soup and panini lunch restaurant or other such epicurean ideas.
Yep, that's right. Strained peas and breastmilk frozen stars. Mmm....Just take a cup of frozen peas, boil 'em and strain 'em, add 1/4 cup breastmilk, pop them in the freezer and then anytime you can defrost a delicious tot-sized snack. I'm not sure it's what Tom had in mind when he picked out the molds, but as I mentioned, oh how things change.
And by the way....
They're delicious!!

The latest
First Things first....
A new couch! Something to sit on...Hooray! It's amazing what a month of sitting on the ground will do for your appreciation of fake leather!
The road to Summer Bay beach opened....wow...it's nice back there and sure to provide many hours of summer entertainment.
Eagles are like crows in this town...all over the place!
Pax Rev's first 5K race!
Unfortunately he was so tuckered out, he completely missed Saturday story time....he had Saturday library snore time instead.
Speaking of sleeping, he's always one to catch a nap on the run....
